Information integration specialists, Alicornio Africa, is to host its annual data warehousing event in November. The intention is to empower local practitioners by taking them beyond the existing boundaries of information integration and to foster excellence in the data management field in South Africa.
Says Alicornio Africa MD, Susan Andre, "Each year we host this training event in order to share knowledge and skills with our industry colleagues. It has become a benchmark occasion and is certainly viewed as something not be missed - a critical training opportunity for all in the industry."
This year's event will be led by two international experts, Lawrence Corr and Joe Caserta.
Lawrence Corr is a leading data warehouse design specialist and highly experienced educator. He has taught data warehouse design courses across Europe, North America and Africa. Having worked in decision support for the past 18 years, he later channelled his expertise into the arena of data warehousing and has since 1996 become recognised as a world leader in the field.
Joe Caserta, in collaboration with Dr Ralph Kimball, is the co-author of the first in-depth book on data warehouse ETL design and development, The Data Warehouse ETL Toolkit. He is an influential data warehousing veteran whose expertise is shaped by years of industry experience. Joe has over 14 years of experience providing software solutions and has been wholly dedicated to data warehouse solutions since 1996.
The course is divided into two key modules namely, extended dimensional analysis (EDA) and design to be presented by Corr; and ETL design, to be presented by Caserta.
The EDA and Design component chiefly focuses on real-world design challenges typical of large, complex multinational data warehouse projects. Topics are taught through a combination of lecture, instructor-led examples, case studies and team exercises that review existing dimensional designs, model dimensional solutions to common business problems and plan the design of entire data warehouses.
Alicornio Africa has afforded attendees the opportunity to attend the whole course, but for those unable to leave the office for the full five days, the option of attending one of the two modules is also available.
As an additional value add, course delegates will be able to submit their ETL questions and issues with Joe who will address them during his class. Delegates may also consult with Lawrence to review their dimensional modelling designs.
