June 2007

Private enterprises appear poised to drive significant growth in the local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) test equipment market, after previously ranking as the second largest end-user segment in 2006. New analysis from Frost & Sullivan reveals that the worldwide LAN/WAN test equipment market earned revenues of $815,2 million in 2006 and estimates this to reach approximately $1,4 billion in 2013.

Damelin, a private tertiary education institution in South Africa, has purchased 350 seats of Autodesk 3ds Max 3D modelling and animation software through Autodesk solution provider Touchvision.
Damelin has a footprint across nine provinces and a network of 44 campuses across South Africa, and the School of Media and Design Technology is its largest, with a selection of 13 programmes offering a range of creative media, design and performing arts disciplines. The Autodesk 3ds Max 9 3D animation, rendering, and modelling software lets game developers, design visualisation professionals, and visual effects artists maximise their productivity and tackle challenging animation projects.
According to the head of the Media and Design Technology School, Gideon Gurschl, “It is the aim of the Damelin School of Media and Design Technology to produce well balanced and innovative graduates, who are capable and equipped with relevant software skills required by industry on completion of their respective studies.” He added that the purchase of 3ds Max ensures the highest standards of education to learners.
Damelin believes in obtaining the highest standards for its pupils, and has bought the software for its Advanced Certificate in Multimedia Design. The recent buy will mean students acquire vital graphic design skills, and more specifically practical experience in graphic and website animation.
The complement of programmes includes Fashion, Media, Interior Design, Sound Engineering, Contemporary Music, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Photography, Filmmaking, TV and Radio Presenting. In addition to these programmes, short programmes in Fashion Design and Sound Engineering are also on offer.
