Sun Microsystems has expanded its blade server line with the release of Blade X6450 for high performance computing and enterprise applications.
The Sun Blade X6450 Server Module features four high-performance dual or quad core Intel Xeon processor 7300 series, providing 50% more memory than competing servers from HP, IBM, and Dell.
The server in combination with the Constellation System provides more than seven TFlops of peak performance per fully populated Blade 6048 chassis, 71% more than its competitors.
Michael McNerney, director of blade systems at Sun Microsystems, said: "With the Sun Blade X6450, Sun is continuing to build out its Sun Blade line which offers SPARC, Intel Xeon, AMD Opteron and industry leading operating systems, in a single blade infrastructure. This new server module takes our blade platform to the next level in performance, packing 768 cores into one rack with increased memory capacity that provides enterprise class four socket computing in a blade form factor."
The Sun Blade X6450 server module is currently shipping with a starting price of $8655.
