Having been dropped last week by its previous distributor, TomTom has announced it is opening a dedicated South African organisation.
"TomTom's new office in South Africa is a direct result of the expanding global portable navigation devices (PNDs) industry and fast adaptation of navigation in South Africa," says Diederik Nederlof, vice-president sales, South Africa, Benelux & Nordics. "The opening of our South African office is in line with our global expansion strategy and enables us to fully focus on the needs and demands of our South African customers and retailers".
The new South Africa organisation is to be headed by Joost Jetten. Joost and his team will be based in Johannesburg and in his role as regional manager, South Africa & Middle East he will be responsible for driving and developing all sales and marketing oriented activities in his region. He will implement a dedicated product strategy, including marketing investments on the shop floor to ensure retailers get all the local support they need to further grow the awareness of the PND category and TomTom devices in South Africa.
"We expect to be announcing a new partnership with a South African distributor soon and we have all confidence in our local organisation and strong product offering to continue to successfully grow our business in South Africa", Nederlof adds.
