Symantec releases web-rating service

21 August 2008

Security software provider Symantec has released an open beta of its web site-rating service.
The company said Norton Safe Web enables users to differentiate safe websites from malicious ones by observing visual site ratings delivered within search results including Google, Yahoo, and Live Search. It also warns users before they visit a malicious site and includes a free online community site for users to solicit reviews about websites.
Rowan Trollope, senior vice president of consumer products at Symantec, said: "Our goal for Norton Safe Web is to provide users with the most up-to-date and accurate web site ratings of any offering on the market. We can do this by leveraging the millions of members of Norton Community Watch that relies on the eyes and ears of the Norton user base to detect and report trouble."
