PTC acquires Synapsis

18 December 2008

Product lifecycle management vendor PTC has acquired environmental compliance software provider Synapsis Technology for an undisclosed sum.
Synapsis provides environmental regulatory compliance software to customers including Motorola, Microsoft, Sony Ericsson, IBM, GE, and Cisco. The privately held company has 25 employees.
PTC said the acquisition will enable it to broaden its support for green product design and enable customers to achieve compliance with Reach and other environmental regulations.
PTC's Product Development System provides an integral, scalable platform to help companies achieve their business goals through product development process optimisation. It said the addition of Synapsis' products will enable customers to build environmental compliance into the product development process. It also plans to integrate its content and process management solution Windchill with the Synapsis solutions.
James Heppelmann, executive vice president and chief product officer at PTC, said: "The constantly increasing number and scope of new regulations adds complexity to the product development process. The Synapsis acquisition benefits PTC customers by enabling them to fulfill global compliance requirements and achieve environmentally aware design and green product development."
