Yahoo closes Brickhouse lab

18 December 2008

Yahoo is closing its San Francisco-based Brickhouse development lab, an in-house incubator opened last year where small development teams developed products including Yahoo Pipes, Yahoo Live, and Fire Eagle.
However, the company has made little effort to promote or market these products, and with the current crisis in the company leading to a problem with its search and advertising businesses, technical product innovation has taken a back seat.
Brickhouse has also suffered from the steady exodus of executives. The group was originally led by Salim Ismail and Flickr cofounder Caterina Fake, who have left the company, and Chad Dickerson left the company to join Etsy.
