Johannesburg-based ICT service and support specialists, Think IT Solutions, recently partnered with two of South Africa's top companies in upgrade and software infrastructure projects.
South African gaming and hospitality group, Sun International wanted to upgrade the backup system across all of its properties to CA ARCserve 11.5 and needed an IT company not only to implement the new backup software but also to offer support to its IT departments at properties throughout the group. The organisation opted to partner with Think IT Solutions due to its status as a certified CA partner and experience in successfully rolling out backup solutions.
Sun International's GM: IT Operations and Shared Services, Tony Maia says: "We selected Think IT Solutions to deploy the new backup solution as we felt the company was aligned with our project objectives. And as a result, we are now engaging Think IT Solutions exclusively."
Think IT Solutions assessed the scope of the upgrade and rolled it out at the following properties: Carnival City; Meropa; The Boardwalk; Sun City; Windmill Casino and Hotel; Head Office; Sibaya Resort and Casino; Wild Coast Sun; The Table Bay; Morula Sun Resort and Casino; Grand West; Naledi Sun; Kalahari Sands Hotel and Casino; and The Golden Valley Casino.
"The upgrade to Tier 1 properties kicked off in March and was completed by June 2006, while additional properties were upgraded on-demand between June 2006 and November 2007," he explains. Backups at all the casinos are now running well and Maia maintains that the objectives of the project could not have been achieved were it not for close co-operation and a conscious effort by Think IT Solutions to meet Sun International's requirements.
"We are currently monitoring the properties on an on-going basis, doing proactive maintenance on a weekly basis and holding monthly strategy meetings with Sun International," explains Think IT Solutions service delivery manager, Rohil Dayaram. "We are delighted to have been given a green rating by Sun International and to be regarded as its preferred support partner," he adds.
The JSE-listed Resilient Group required an IT company to run, maintain and advise on the Group's IT infrastructure and its future IT requirements. The company engaged the services of Think IT during September 2005.
Says Rual Bornman, a financial manager within the Group, whom is also tasked to manage the Group's IT environment. "In conjunction with Think IT, we conceptualised the infrastructure framework and future scope, which included the upgrading of hardware and software, upon which they implemented and created the Group's current successful IT infrastructure and environment."
Dayaram elaborates, "We rolled out a server maintenance and infrastructure plan, upgraded server hardware and redeployed the servers to our high standards. We also set up and scoped an improved disaster recovery solution including offsite backups of virtually all data.
Furthermore we have been responsible for the client's IT infrastructure relocation to their existing premises."
Think IT Solutions is now the Resilient Group's fulltime IT partner and the property group is enjoying a stable and efficient IT infrastructure.
"Think IT Solutions is a highly skilled, professional IT company with intellectual property and depth. We are pleased to have them on board as a partner."
